Popup canvas replacement.

Categories: Camping Tent

Question:

Can anyone give me a ballpark figure regarding cost for replacing canvas on a popup? I’m looking at some older campers and am doubious about state of top material.

Take a look around the web. A while back I had one wing rebuilt for a pop-up. The name of the company escapes me but I was very impressed with the service and quality. I will do some research and see if I can locate it for you. The cost for that one wing was approximately $160 dollars including shipping. A couple of things to remember though-   It takes a while and sometimes there is a backlog at these canvas shops, so plan accordingly.  The shop  I used needed to have the old canvas to create an exact   match Speaking from disastrous personal experience, make sure you know what you are getting into. Older pop-ups can be a lot like old jeeps or snowmobiles. “work on them for a month to ride/drive one day”. Before you buy, look for rotting floors, lift system problems (I would suggest putting it up and down 3-4 times before buying), and frame rust. I bought a nice looking used camper a couple of years back. After spending app. $500 dollars rebuilding the lift system twice and fixing the floor not to mention the lost weekends, I finally smartened up and invested in a good family tent! I have had zero problems since. Simplicity over creature comforts won out for me! p.s. If you are interested, I have an 86 or 87 Rockwood pop-up for sale with a broken lift system (again!) for sale in NH.  8^) Campingdad Before you buy.

Response:

You are probably looking at  aprox.  $650. for the average pop-up. Lots of times you do not need to replace all the canvas, only the ends over the beds.  Check out the website:  http://www.rvamerica.com/bearcreek/ This company posts its prices and has a very good reputation, but there are several good vendors on the web. I have not used them personally. good luck with your soon to be new toy DAP.

Michael, Bear creek (thanks David) is the name of the place I went to. They were outstanding people to deal with. I would highly recommend them. Campingdad Before you buy.
