If you had to choose one book on backpacking
Question:
Townsend’s book is a good one. I have an annotated bibliography of a number of these books on my site listed below. Happy trails! Chuck’s Backpacking Bonanza http://members.aol.com/CMorHiker/backpack/
Response:
I managed to get this book in the UK, and can honesetly say it is fantastic! Shame I cannot find anywhere that stocks the magazine, so I have no idea if the actual magazine is any good, but going by the book, I reckon it would be. Kyla Cotterell

Just a note about Chris’s book. Although fromthe UK, the books have a definate North American flavor to them, so don’t think that they are aimed at UK people. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – >The British author Chris Townsend has a number of good books about backpacking >that are excellent. That’s a good read, especially for philosophy and technique. It is over 15 years old, so I expect that none of the mentioned brands/models of equipment is still available. On the other hand, gear hasn’t changed greatly since then, so you should be able to apply his advise to similar gear today. — Ken Lee, http://www.rahul.net/kenton/
